What is Tablemaker?

Tablemaker is a web-based tool for submitting, organizing, and sharing glycan and glycoprotein datasets. It helps researchers format data with standardized metadata and generate downloadable Excel or CSV tables for publication or integration into the GlyGen knowledgebase.

Who can use Tablemaker?

Any researcher in glycomics or related fields can use Tablemaker. Creating an account is required for data submission, but browsing public datasets is open to everyone.

What types of data are supported?

You can submit glycan structures, glycoprotein annotations, experimental metadata, and biological context such as species, tissue type, and disease relevance.

What file formats can I upload and download?

Tablemaker accepts Excel (.xlsx) and CSV (.csv) files. After submission, you can download your curated dataset in either format.

How are glycan structures validated?

Tablemaker uses GlyTouCan IDs to validate glycan structures. If your dataset includes novel glycans, you’ll need to register them with GlyTouCan before submission.

Can I include external database links?

Yes. You can link to resources like UniProt, GlyTouCan, PubMed, and others to enrich your dataset and improve discoverability.

Is there a limit to dataset size or number of entries?

There’s no strict limit, but large datasets (e.g., over 10,000 entries) may require additional processing time. For very large submissions, contacting the GlyGen team in advance is recommended.

How do I ensure my metadata is compliant?

Tablemaker provides templates and built-in validation checks. Required fields include species, tissue, experimental method, and publication status. The system flags missing or incorrect entries before submission.

Can I revise or update a dataset after submission?

Yes. You can log in to your account to edit metadata or upload revised files at any time.

Can I control access to my dataset?

Absolutely. You can choose to make your dataset public or keep it private until publication. Licensing options like CC BY 4.0 are available.
