The GO Annotation section of the Protein details page in GlyGen provides Gene Ontology (GO) terms associated with the protein that fall into three categories: Molecular Function, Cellular Component, and Biological Processes.
GO Annotation
Gene ontology is a precisely defined, common controlled vocabulary for describing the roles of genes and gene products in any organism and includes three categories: Molecular function, Biological process and Cellular component
Only five top level annotations are shown on the details page whereas a link to the QuickGO database is provided for the other annotations for each category.
GO Annotation in GlyGen is presented three categories i.e. Biological Process, Cellular Component, and Molecular Function.
- Molecular function represents the elemental activities of a gene product at the molecular level, such as binding or catalysis as described by the Gene Ontology. chemoattractant activity (GO:0042056)
- Cellular component is a part of a cell or its extracellular environment where a gene product may be located. Eg. extracellular region (GO:0005576)
- Biological process is a change or complex of changes on the level of granularity of the cell or organism that is mediated by one or more gene products. Eg. activation of MAPK activity (GO:0000187)
